Greg Giannascoli
A world class marimba player and instructor at the renowned Julliard School in New York, Greg mixes an excellent stage presence, top level playing, humorous stories and a repertoire carefully selected to hold the audience's attention. He enteratins large groups with interesting stories, humor and incredible musicianship.
ForJazz Festivals, he presents a full length program (including works by Gershwin and Bernstein) with an intermission, or a powerful 45-60 minute program with no intermaission to open for a larger act.
For Classical Concerts, Greg offers three different programs: Standard marimba concerti by Kurka, Creston, Hovhaness, Basta, Mayuzumi, Miyoshi, Miki, Ichiyanagi/Paganini and others; Popular marimba program with many show pieces, including Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Rhapsody in Blue, I Got Rhythm, Tambourin Chinois, West Side Story Selections and Flight of the Bumblebee; Educational program, Marimba Around the World, which is arranged for performance with an orchestra or band.
For modern music aficionados, he presents a modern chamber/recital series of either The Music of Minoru Miki or The Music of Akira Miyoshi combined with Quintet for 3 Flutes, Marimba and Bass by Teruyuki Noda.
