Alexei Filimonov
An internationally-acclaimed master pianist, Alexei Filimonov impresses audiences throughout Europe and North America with original interpretations of great masterpieces. His unique sound originates from his ability to combine the original accompaniment played by his left hand with Alexei’s interpretation of the work played by his right hand.
Audiences are fascinated with this original interpretation of the music written by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Skryabin and other great composers. Alexei’s many performances in Europe and North America were so well received that he created an original piano show, entitled IndiviDualPlay.
After graduating from the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, he has performed in various Russian and international music festivals. He has also performed with the recognized jazz saxophonist, Igor Butman, and other famous musicians in Russia and throughout the world.
The first CD that Alexei released was VIBRATIONS: Neoclassical Improvisations for Piano containing songs that he composed, arranged and performed by weaving the necessary elements of original compositions. Winter Songs was recorded by the Alexei Filimonov Jazz Piano Trio, and IndiviDualPlay is the CD that captures the spirit of his original piano show.
Although he is recognized throughout the world for his unique interpretations of the classical masterpieces, Alexei has been awarded top prizes in several international jazz competitions. In 2001, 2002 and 2003, Alexei was selected as one of the top four pianists in the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo competitions in Switzerland. After receiving second prize in 6eme Concours International de Soliste de Jazz in Monaco in 2004, he won the competition at the 26 International Jazz Hoeilaart Contest in Belgium. As a master pianist, Alexei is equally comfortable interpreting classical masterpieces and performing with talented jazz musicians.
